Frequently Asked Questions...

When is the best time of year to get married in Italy?

Between May and September the days are usually sunny and dry though May can be showery. July and August are very hot and can often see temperatures in the 30s.

How soon before the wedding should we arrive in Italy?

This depends on when your town hall declaration will be. We will be able to advise you on booking your ceremony. Usually a couple of days before the big day is perfect although there may be exceptions depending on the town hall.

Can we remarry if we have been divorced?

Yes. Women must wait a period of 300 days since the Decree Absolute before remarrying. This rule goes not apply to the groom. It may not be possible to marry you in a Catholic church following a divorce.

Will my marriage certificate be recognised in my home country?

Yes, your certificate is legally binding and will be recognised worldwide. We will request a multilingual certificate for you so that it will never need to be translated. If you live outside Europe, we can arrange for an appostile to be placed on your certificate.

Can we come over and see the venues?

Yes, we offer guided viewings which usually take half a day. We typically see three or four of your shortlisted venues. We charge €200 for the tour and refund half of this amount once you go ahead and book your wedding through us. Ask us for more details.

When do we pay?

A deposit on our service of 50% is required to book, we will advise you of deposits required to secure venues and other services for your wedding (deposits usually vary between 20% and 40%). The full balance must be paid within 6 weeks of the date of the wedding.

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept payments by international bank transfer. All payments are made in Euros.

How far in advance should we start planning our wedding?

You should secure the venue as soon as possible, a year or more in advance is recommended to ensure you get the venue and date you would like. The flowers, music, photography etc. can usually all be planned between 6 months and a year before the day.

Is it possible to plan a wedding at short notice?

It is, depending on whether there is sufficient time to have your legal documents passed through the official channels. You should really allow around four to six months minimum to be safe. Symbolic weddings can be planned with very little notice though venues do get booked up in advance so the later you leave it, the less choice you will have.

Can same sex couples marry in Italy?

We are very happy to confirm that, as of the 5th June 2016, same-sex couples can marry in Italy. These marriages are recognised by the law and are officially called ‘civil unions’.

When do we get our wedding certificate?

Your certificate will be issued the same day as the wedding and will be presented to you after the ceremony. If you live outside Europe, we may need to take your certificate to have an apostille stamp placed on it and, in this case, we'll post it out to you as soon as we can.

How long is the ceremony?

Civil and symbolic ceremonies last around 25 minutes. You should allow extra time if you have readings by friend and family members. Catholic church weddings last around an hour.

Will we need a translator?

For civil ceremonies, by law, you will require a translator if either you or your witnesses do not speak fluent Italian.

Must we have witnesses?

For civil and Catholic church weddings, yes. You will require two witnesses over the age of 18. They can be family members.

What would happen if you or a key supplier was ill on the wedding day?

As part of a team, we have staff who could take over at short notice. All of our suppliers have similar support and would be able to provide cover should the need arise.

Are you able to arrange group activities and welcome dinners around the wedding date?

Yes, send us your requirements and we will be happy to help you. An additional fee may apply.

What documents will we need?

You can find details for civil weddings on our paperwork and documents page here.

I have a different question!
